Baldeneysee Lake is accessible by car over barrier-free paths. 

With the S-Bahn S6, you can reach Essen-Werden station; from there, a footpath leads along the Ruhr – alternatively parallel to the B224 to the weir, or over the Gustav-Heinemann Bridge and the towpath past Brehminsel and Neukirchener Mühle.

Cruises with the White Fleet (lake round trips) are currently not barrier-free.

KulturMuseum Folkwang Art Venue

Museumsplatz 1, 45128 Essen

The Museum Folkwang provides parking spaces for people with disabilities in its underground parking facility. From here, the entrance and exhibition areas are accessible. Parking for buses is available on Kahrstraße.

Using U-Bahn lines 107, 108, and U11 towards Bredeney/Messe Gruga, you can reach the Rüttenscheider Stern stop from Essen Hbf; from there, it’s approximately a 7-minute walk to the signposted museum.

KulturExplore Zeche Zollverein

Zeche Zollverein has been certified by the nationwide "Travel for All" system. The site offers ten designated disabled parking spots and a barrier-free toilet; assistance dogs are welcome in all relevant areas.

Tours for blind and visually impaired individuals, including cast-iron terrain models with Braille and tactile symbols, are available. Hearing-impaired visitors can participate in FM-assisted tours, while sign language tours are available for the deaf. Tours in simple language cater to people with cognitive impairments. Prior registration is required for all tours.

Wheelchair users can access the building step-free via the side entrance to Foyer Nord; within the 100-hectare core area, the 3.5 km long asphalted Ring Promenade is navigable. As sections of the site include thresholds and slight inclines, a visit with a companion is recommended. Seating is available during tours and throughout the site.

Travel by public transport: Zollverein stop (tram line 107, approx. 500 m to RUHR.VISITORCENTER) or Zollverein-Nord stop (S-Bahn 2, bus 170/183, tram line 107, approx. 1,000 m). For driving, use "Fritz-Schupp-Allee" as a navigation point; disabled parking is at parking lots A1 and A2. The free "Zollverein Tours" map with information on inclines, curbs, and barrier-free alternative routes is available at the RUHR.VISITORCENTER.

KulturAalto Theater Cultural Experience

Opernplatz 10, 45128 Essen

The Aalto Theater is accessible for people with disabilities. Elevators are available in both the underground garage and the cloakroom hall. Direct access to the entrance is also possible via the driveway. A disabled toilet is located in the cloakroom hall.

For hearing aid users, an induction loop is available on all seats; simply switch your hearing aid to the "T" (telephone) setting. During the performance, high-pitched noise should be avoided when the hearing aid is removed.

KulturGOP Varieté Theatre Highlights

The GOP Varieté Theater offers barrier-free access from the parking lot and nearby stops. The interior area is fully accessible; a seating area and a wheelchair-accessible WC are available. There is no outdoor area.

There is no provision for headphones, audio systems, or induction systems for people with hearing impairments, however, the venue has excellent room acoustics and bright, non-glaring lighting. There are no guidelines for the visually impaired, but sufficient lighting is provided. For people with cognitive impairments, the venue is free from auditory and visual sensory overload; unfortunately, events and subtitles in simple language are not currently offered.

A glass elevator in the foyer allows barrier-free access to the gallery and the 1st tier. Seats in the 2nd tier and on the balcony are only accessible by stairs. Disabled toilets are located in the main hall (Huyssenallee entrance) and the lower foyer (Stadtgarten entrance).

Wheelchair spaces are available on the stage gallery and the middle gallery; the exact locations are detailed in the seating charts. Reservations can be made at the TicketCenter or by phone at 0201 81 22-200.

For hearing aid users, an induction loop is installed in the Alfried Krupp Hall, which works with seats in the auditorium and on the middle gallery. Information on suitable places is available when purchasing tickets or by calling the specified number; there is no induction loop available in the RWE Pavilion.

KinoCinemaxX Essen Movie Experience

Berliner Platz 4/5, 45127 Essen

CinemaxX Essen features designated disabled parking spaces in nearby parking garages, as well as directly in front of the building, approximately 20 meters from the entrance. A curb of 5 cm must be navigated. The entrance height is 1.95 m in the "Q-Park" or 2 m in the "CinemaxX" parking garage.

Wheelchair users can enter through the ground-level side entrance and a 90 cm wide, extendable to 180 cm, swing door into the foyer; bell and intercom are located at a height of 100 cm. A passenger elevator with a passage width of 90 cm, tactile writing, and optical information connects the floors; the key is available from service staff, who can also assist up to the cinema hall.

Arrival by car via the Q-Park parking garage (Ostfeldstr. 9) or the CinemaxX parking garage (Berliner Platz 2-4). Only low-floor trams (line 101 is not barrier-free) allow accessible access by tram; the subway offers step-free entry and several elevators.

KinoLichtburg Cinema Experience

Kettwiger Str. 36, 45127 Essen

The Lichtburg cinema holds the "Barrier-Free Sign" by the Essen Self-Help Association for the Disabled. Access is level or via a ramp (threshold max. 3 cm, gradient under 6%); all doors are at least 90 cm wide. Elevators to the event locations open automatically, are at least 90 cm wide, have a cabin depth of at least 140 cm, and the control buttons are not higher than 130 cm.

There are 4 wheelchair spaces in the first auditorium and 1 in the second, each in the gallery; companions can be seated directly beside them. Note that there is a non-automatic entrance door and swinging doors in the entry area. Seating is available on the way to the venue for those with mobility issues.

A disabled toilet is located in the basement, with a side-accessible WC bowl (movement space on the left). The nearest transportation stop is Hirschlandplatz (U11, U17, U18), approximately 200 m from the entrance; guidance for people with disabilities is available from the city's disability advisory service (Tel. 0201 8833290). Three public disabled parking spaces (width 3.50 m) are available about 60 m from the entrance.

For fans in wheelchairs, there are a total of 38 spots on the Rahn-Tribune and an additional 6 spots for guest fans in Block G2. The Rahn-Tribune is accessible through the R1/R2 to R4/5 entrances, while the guest tribune is accessible through entrance G2. Tickets cost €7.00, which includes an accompanying person seated next to the wheelchair user.

People with visual impairments have access to 10 seats, with tickets costing €15.00, and an accompanying person can attend free of charge. Receivers and headphones for audio-descriptive commentary are available for loan.

Four accessible stadium toilets are located in close proximity to the wheelchair spots and can be accessed with the Euro key.
